Founded in 2010 by H. H. Shri Vishwavallabha Theertha Swamiji of Shri Sode Vadiraja Mutt – one of the 700 plus years old Ashta Mutts associated with the world famous Shri Krishna temple of Udupi in Karnataka – Shri MadhwaVadiraja Institute of Technology & Management (SMVITM), situated at Bantakal in Udupi has carved a niche for itself in imparting quality engineering education in the coastal Karnataka region. Shri Swamiji started the institute with the sublime objective of providing quality higher education to the needy student community at affordable costs. The motto Engineering your Career and Character with Care well reflects the objectives and philosophy of the institute. Despite, being the youngest institute in the region, SMVITM has made remarkable strides in its journey towards excellence over the past five years and has emerged as the most promising engineering institute with its well-qualified and motivated faculty, state-of-the-art infrastructure and distinguished learning-centric facilities.
At present, SMVITM, with a total student intake of 441 per year, offers Bachelor of Engineering (B.E.) courses in Civil Engineering, Computer Science & Engineering Electronics & Communication Engineering and Mechanical Engineering. Currently, 1562 students are pursuing their engineering education at the institute. Despite being located in a rural area, SMVITM ensures that its students are well trained in existing engineering practices and acquainted with the latest industrial trends.
Established in the year 2010 under the aegis of Shri Sode Vadiraja Mutt Education Trust®, Udupi, Shri Madhwa Vadiraja Institute of Technology & Management (SMVITM) has emerged as ‘A Promising Institution with a Distinction’. It is located in a picturesque village called Vishwothama Nagar in Bantakal, near world famous temple town Udupi, a relatively small but a culturally vibrant and intellectually enlightened town situated in coastal Karnataka.
The institute campus is on the Katapady-Belman road, about 6 km off NH 66, 12 km away from Udupi and well connected to Kundapura, Karkala and Mangalore by road. Shri Shri Vishwavallabha Theertha Swamiji of Paryaya Shri Sode Vadiraja Mutt, Udupi and the president of the Trust, at the very young age of 24 years promoted SMVITM to reach the goal of up-lift of the underprivileged in the form of basic education, in general and technical education, in particular.
The Civil Engineering Department has been in existence since the inception of the Institute during the academic year 2010-11 with an intake approval of 60 students. The Department has got a highly qualified team of faculty members having rich experience within academia and industry. The Department is committed to provide quality education and produce competent engineers to meet the growing demand for professionals in civil engineering. The Department invites eminent personalities and academicians from prestigious Institutions and industries to deliver quality lectures to the students frequently and has organized many highly useful workshops which are beneficial to the faculty, students and practising engineers. The faculty members attend various workshops/conferences/training programs on a regular basis, which would keep them abreast with the latest happenings and developments occurring in their related fields and upgrade their competencies and skill-sets up to date.

The Department of Mechanical Engineering at SMVITM started functioning in the year 2010. The Department offers an undergraduate program in mechanical engineering that covers a wide range of topics in the field of mechanical engineering such as thermal and fluid sciences, engineering design, dynamics and control, materials, manufacturing, modelling and simulation as per the VTU curriculum to suit the interests of students and meet the industry requirements.
The student intake capacity of the Department is 120. Teaching and learning activities at the Department are designed in such a way as to stimulate intellectual curiosity, creativity and innovation in students. The Department has a well qualified and experienced team of faculty members who have their specializations in the different branches/areas of mechanical engineering. The highly committed faculty with their innovative ideas guides the students with their projects and industry assignments. The efforts of faculty, well experienced supporting staff, enabling learning environment and availability of modern facilities are reflected in the excellent performance of the students.

To cater to this, the Department of Computer Science & Engineering was established at SMVITM in 2010, offering Bachelor of Engineering course with an intake of 60 students per year. The intake was raised to 120 students from the academic year 2012-13. The Department aims at training the students to be industry-ready by the end of their course through regular curriculum as prescribed by the University and also with supplementary programs, throughout their study. The Department of Computer Science & Engineering is one of the much sought after departments at SMVITM. The Department has well qualified and motivated faculty members who are highly committed to the overall development of the students.

Electronics today stands at the forefront of the rapidly expanding horizon of Science and Technology. The Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering in SMVITM was established in the year 2010, initially offering an undergraduate program with an intake of 60 students per year. The intake was increased to 120 in the academic year 2012-13. The department has well-qualified faculty members – highly motivated in teaching and guiding the students in exploring newer avenues of electronics and communication. The department is intent on creative and technologically advanced skill transfer to the students through teaching, mentoring and counselling. It regularly organizes seminars, symposiums, workshops and invited talks by eminent faculty from reputed institutions and industry experts, to keep the students abreast of the latest technological developments in related fields. The services of some academicians of high repute have been utilized by the department with the objective of supplementing teaching, mentoring and guiding the students as well as faculty members.

The Central Library at SMVITM is housed in a spacious three-storey state of the art independent block. Two floors of the block are occupied exclusively by the Central Library. It has about 1300 square meters of built-up area. The Central Library has a collection of 28,000 volumes of reference/text books, e-books and general category books with over 3,500 titles. In addition to these, there are periodicals and CDs on science, engineering and technology.
The collection includes reference books such as dictionaries, encyclopedias, handbooks and standards. The library offers a book bank scheme for the students, a special book bank scheme exclusively for SC/ST students, reprography and printing facilities. The library subscribes to e-journals and print journals. An e-learning center providing live transmission of VTU EDUSAT programme is a special feature of the Central Library. In addition to the central library, each department has a separate departmental library for ready reference for its faculty and staff.
The Institution provides bus facility to daily commuters for both students and staff from Udupi, Kundapur, Hiriyadka, Saibarakatte and Manipal. Around 300 commuters avail this facility for conveyance to and from the college. An Institutional Bus coordinator is available for any queries regarding transportation.
SMVITM campus has a separate cafeteria that is well ventilated and clean with sufficient number of seating and service capacity for students/staff.
The Cafeteria provides hygienic and delicious South Indian, North Indian, Chinese food items. It also provides bakery items, chats, fruit juices and variety of ice creams
College has a stationery shop and also a photocopying center inside the campus with subsidized rates for the benefit of students.
The institution has separate Boys and Girls hostels are available on sharing basis in order to provide a good atmosphere to the students to pursue their studies.
